SYDNEY — The amazing abilities of local artists have impressed Nathalie Dubois-Sissoko for a long time but now that she’s seen Cape Breton, she’s in love.
“It’s everything — the friendliness of the people and the beauty of the Cabot Trail — it was just lovely,” enthused the president and CEO of Dubois, Pelin and Associates.
Dubois-Sissoko was in Cape Breton Sunday and Monday, touring and meeting with local artisans in the hope of finding unique items for her California-based business.
Her company provides unique items for gifting suites in far-flung cities of the world where celebrities gather for events such as the Cannes Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, the Golden Globes or the Oscar Awards.
“I have many clients in Nova Scotia and in Cape Breton. There is Michique Handbags and Galloping Cows and others,” she said, during an interview at an artisans display set up just for her in Sydney Monday.
Dubois-Sissoko couldn’t contain her excitement about one unique offering.
“The Keltic Lodge in Ingonish — it was such a beautiful place that I think it would make a wonderful destination gift for a celebrity,” she said.
“Ten years ago, Bora Bora was not known as a destination for most North Americans and there was only one hotel there, but now it has received a lot of exposure and it has become a popular destination,” she said.
Dubois-Sissoko said she intends to talk with the operators of the Keltic Lodge to see what can be worked out.
Matthew MacKenzie, general manager of the Keltic Lodge, said he would be happy to talk about possibilities.
“The reality is, Cape Breton is very successful as a destination and the more exposure we can get, the better,” said MacKenzie, during a telephone interview Monday.
“The tourism business is so competitive now and everyone is trying to find the unique experience, so if we can make Nova Scotia a trend in the world, that’s a good thing,” he added.
The Keltic Lodge has been featured as a vacation prize on Wheel of Fortune, a U.S.-based game show.

Tears of Glass in the Studio with Breakfast Television
November 2009:
Breakfast Television was one of our first big shows, and it was a very positive experience.
The exposure helped to blossom Tears of Glass, and also helped to solidify us as a creative force in Cape Breton, and in Nova Scotia.
Thank you to BT and to all of the people who sought us out after the show!
